How to Stop Your Mind from Keeping You Broke
Crush your financial blocks, rewrite your money story, and start thriving today
You ever notice how, if you believe something hard enough, the universe seems to serve it right up on a silver platter? Like, if you’re convinced you’re unlucky in love, every date turns into a horror story. Or if you think people don’t respect you, you start noticing every little slight.
It’s this tricky little habit where our minds hold onto info that backs up what we already think or feel, while conveniently ignoring anything that doesn't fit the picture we've painted.
It’s called confirmation bias.
And you might ask what this “confirmation bias” thingy has to do with money and mindset? Bear with me, please!
Ever feel like no matter what you do, money just keeps slipping through your fingers? Like there’s this invisible barrier that holds you back, even when you’re doing all the “right” things?
Let me tell you, I get it. Sometimes, that barrier isn’t about money itself—it’s about the stories we’ve been told and the patterns we’ve inherited, and they go way deeper than any budgeting app can fix.
I grew up watching my mum control everything. Every little detail had to be just right, or she’d be all over it, making sure it went the way she wanted. And in that environment, it didn’t take long for me to pick up the same habits – subconsciously of course. I became a master of control. In my mind, if I didn’t stay on top of everything, the whole world would just fall apart. That was my “normal,” my comfort zone—the pattern my brain and body were wired to live by.
And here’s the thing: I thought I could handle life that way forever. But then, my husband’s accident shook everything up. Suddenly, I was faced with the reality that no amount of control could protect me from life’s unpredictability. In that raw, painful moment, I realised that I had to let go. I couldn’t control everything, and honestly, trying to, had drained me more than I’d ever admitted. So, I started letting go, bit by bit. I trusted more, relaxed more, and felt this strange sense of relief.
Then one day, it hit me—if I could change my approach to life, maybe I could do the same thing with money. I realised that just like with control, I’d been clinging to a belief that money had to be hard, something I’d never get a handle on. It was like my brain had taken that old controlling pattern and twisted it into a scarcity mindset with money. Money struggles were my “comfort zone”—because it was all I knew.
And let’s be real—it’s exhausting. Constantly feeling like you’re one step behind, like there’s never enough, like you’re just not cut out for financial ease. It messes with your head, your peace, your confidence. It makes you feel powerless when, really, the power to shift things has been in your hands this whole time.
So, what happens? This belief becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. You start acting in ways that keep proving it right. Maybe you hold back from taking that new job opportunity because, deep down, you don’t believe it’ll work out. Or you avoid looking at your bank balance because it’s just too painful. It’s not that you can’t get out of this cycle; it’s just that your brain keeps reinforcing this idea, trapping you in a loop where the past keeps repeating itself.
The truth is: it’s not just about money. It’s about that old comfort zone, which inherited belief that this is all you’re meant to have.
Once I realised this, I knew I had to rewrite my money story. Just like I’d done with control, I had to let go of the old beliefs and challenge myself to trust more. So, I started paying attention to every moment where money flowed to me, however small. Got a little extra cash? That was a win. Found a way to save a bit? That was proof that things could be different. It wasn’t about big changes at first—it was about training my brain to notice when things were going right.
And little by little, those moments added up. My confidence grew, and I started believing that money could be something I actually enjoyed, not something I feared or controlled to death. It wasn’t about clinging to every penny out of fear. It was about trusting that I could handle money, that I could create abundance if I just let go of the old script.
You don’t have to stay stuck in that loop. The trick to breaking free? Challenge that bias. Catch your mind in the act. The next time you think, “I’m never good with money,” ask yourself, “Really? Is that true?” And then start collecting evidence that proves otherwise. Even take notes and read them from time to time.
Imagine the opposite: if you truly believed that money flows to you easily, you'd start seeing opportunities everywhere. Even a small discount would feel like money coming in, or a new job lead would seem like the universe saying, "Yep, here you go!" That positive belief would get reinforced, which means you’d end up acting with more confidence, taking more risks, and ultimately, creating more financial abundance.
Think back to a time you handled money like a boss. Maybe you paid off a debt, maybe you made a smart choice, or maybe you just saved a little. Whatever it is, let those experiences start poking holes in your old belief. Remind yourself: It’s possible for me to be good with money. It’s possible for me to attract abundance. Look for every tiny sign that points to this truth and let that build a new story.
So, if you’re tired of feeling stuck in that money struggle, ask yourself: What old belief are you holding onto? Is there a comfort zone that keeps pulling you back? Start challenging it. Look for those moments when money flows to you, when things feel just a little bit easier. Let those moments start rewriting your story. Because you don’t have to live in the past, and you don’t have to replay the same old struggles.
And if you need help, I’m here.
I can help you see those past moments through a different lens, clearing out those old stories that confirmation bias has been feeding you. In 1:1 sessions, I can help you look at those experiences, flip the script, and let you see your life—and your money—in a completely new light.
And for those of you who are ready to dive deeper, I’m currently working on a workshop to tackle the biggest mindset saboteurs holding you back from your next financial level. Keep an eye on this page; you won’t want to miss it.
This could be the turning point you’ve been waiting for, a step out of the old comfort zone and into a mindset where money finally starts working for you.
