How to Take Control of Your Life by Breaking Free from the Repetitive Cycle
Have you ever felt like you're stuck in a loop, facing the same problems over and over? Trust me, you're not alone. We've all been there, and it’s incredibly frustrating. Imagine running on a hamster wheel, making all this effort but not really getting anywhere. Today, I want to share something that might just change your perspective: the Universal Law of Rhythm.
To give you a bit of background, I’ve worn many hats over the years—dreamer, widow, perfectionist, worrier, entrepreneur, accountant, a money coach….you name it. Each experience has been a piece in the puzzle of understanding life's rhythms.
But behind all that, I’m just like you—a normal person. A single mum with a teen daughter who keeps me on my toes and two cats who think they run the place. My life was never dull, always a story to tell.
Years ago, after losing my husband in a tragic accident, my life felt like it was swinging wildly between extremes. One moment, I was managing to hold things together; the next, everything seemed to fall apart. The emotional pendulum swings were intense and it took a toll on every aspect of my life, especially my finances.
It was during one of these low points that I connected with the Universal Law of Rhythm. Everything in the universe functions in cycles. Think about the tide that comes in and goes out, the way we breathe in and out or the movement of a pendulum. This is the Law of Rhythm and it’s everywhere: in the seasons, the rotation of the planets, the life cycles of stars and yes, even in our personal and financial lives.
How does it work? It’s simple. Everything moves between two extremes, like a pendulum. When we’re up, we’ll eventually come down and vice versa. This constant balance is what we call rhythm.
This law doesn't guarantee that bad things will always happen. It's not about expecting doom; it's about embracing change. For example, you might be shifting from a phase focused on your career to one centred around family. Or you might be moving from a cycle of hard work into a cycle of rest. Recognising these shifts helps us stay balanced and healthy.
In my life, I realised that my emotional and financial ups and downs were a direct manifestation of this universal law. When things were going well, I’d feel on top of the world. But then, something would happen to bring me crashing down. It felt like no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t break free from this relentless pendulum swing.
I started to see this pattern not just in my finances but in other areas of my life too. Moments of joy followed by sadness, pride followed by shame. It was all part of the same cycle. Allowing ourselves to cycle through various emotions, actions, thoughts, priorities and even relationships can help us stay balanced and healthy. Ignoring this law can lead to burnout, especially if you try to force yourself to stay in productivity mode when your body and spirit are asking for rest. I wish I knew when I turned 40 that even motivation is cyclical.
To break free from this cycle, I had to first recognise it. I took a step back and reflected on my life. I saw the recurring patterns and started to understand the rhythm at play. This awareness was the first step toward change.
To break the cycle, I needed to find balance. Here’s what helped me and what can help you too:
Embrace both highs and lows. Understand that both positive and negative experiences are part of the same cycle. When things are good, enjoy them, but prepare a backup plan for the inevitable downturn without fear. When things are bad, know that it’s temporary and an upward swing is on the way.
Neutralise your emotions. Don’t get overly attached to the highs or too depressed by the lows. Find a middle ground. This doesn’t mean being indifferent; it means maintaining a balanced perspective.
Learn from every experience. Every setback is a learning opportunity. Ask yourself, “What can I learn from this?” and “How can this help me grow?” By finding the lessons in every experience, you can turn even the worst times into stepping stones for success.
Practice mindfulness and reflection. Take time each day to reflect on your experiences and emotions. Mindfulness practices like meditation can help you stay grounded and balanced, no matter where you are in the cycle.
Apply the Law of Duality. This means recognising and balancing the positive and negative aspects of your experiences. Think of a pendulum. If you bring it to the center, there’s no counterforce pushing it to either side, and thus, you break free from the vicious cycle. For example, if you’re facing a financial challenge, look for the hidden opportunities or lessons in it. This helps neutralise the emotional charge and breaks the repetitive cycle.
By applying these principles, I gradually found a more stable footing in my life and finances. I began to see the cyclical nature of my experiences not as a curse, but as a natural part of life. I learned to ride the waves, rather than being overwhelmed by them.
If you’re feeling stuck in a rut, remember that it’s just a part of the cycle. Recognise the pattern, learn from it and strive for balance. It’s not about eliminating the highs and lows, but about managing them with a steady, mindful approach.
We've all gone through rough patches, and it's easy to feel like these moments define our worth or our ability to manifest our dreams. But here's the thing: down cycles don't say anything bad about you. They are simply a part of the natural rhythm of life. If you want to improve and grow, which I know you do, you'll experience these turbulent times. Think of it like the seasons – sometimes a harsh winter is just preparing the ground for a beautiful spring. Here comes a gardening tip: the best garlic grows better after spending a rough and cold winter in the ground. And so do you. I promise you that!
As for myself, all I can say is that for every amazing thing I cherish today, I can trace it back to one of the toughest times in my life. And I bet if you look closely, you can do the same. This is the Law of Rhythm in action. For all the bad, there has to be good. It's like nature's way of keeping balance.
Change is unavoidable, so there’s no point in resisting or fearing it. It's all about the meaning we give to our experiences. Are you in sync with the Law of Rhythm?
Ask yourself:
Do I victimise myself when things don’t go my way?
Do I blame myself when things don't turn out right?
Do I accept obstacles knowing they're temporary?
Can I appreciate my tough times, knowing good things are on the way?
Answering these questions can shift your perspective and hugely impact your emotional well-being. Put on those rose-coloured glasses, because life really does look better that way.
Examples of Neutralising Polarities:
If you dissolve the need for a savior, you eliminate the necessity of manifesting a persecutor. This way, you no longer enter the vicious cycle of constantly seeking a savior;
If you dissolve exaggerated pride, you eliminate the external factors that make you feel ashamed and no longer need to compensate by exaggerating your pride;
If you dissolve guilt, you eliminate the compulsions to minimize yourself and the overly altruistic behaviors that recreate guilt later, etc.
No matter what, there will be seasons of growth – cycles of challenge followed by contentment, sadness followed by happiness, loss followed by gain. We came here to have a human experience and the Law of Rhythm helps us ride the waves of life. It's all about balance, giving us just enough challenge to grow but not more than we can handle.
So, next time you're feeling down, remember: it's temporary. Like they say, "this too shall pass." This is the Law of Rhythm. Embrace it, and you'll find a new sense of peace and balance in your life.
